DCR In-Row Cooling

DCR’s In-Row cooler (IRC) is available in three configurations maximizing the performance consistent with the site infrastructure.

The Open-Loop configuration incorporates all of the controls, display monitoring devices, heat exchange coil and plumbing into each unit. The hot air is collected from the ‘hot aisle’, pulled through the heat exchange coil, and the cooled air is then exhausted into the ‘cold aisle.’
The Closed-Loop configuration incorporates the same features as above except the front and rear doors are solid. The hot air is collected directly from the rear of the server cabinets, pulled through the coils and the cooled air directly exhausted to the fronts of the adjacent server cabinets.
The Self-contained solution is to incorporates both airflow solutions in the same configuration so that the hot air is collected from both the hot aisle and directly from the rear of the servers, and the cold air exhausted both into the cold aisle as well as directly to the fronts of the adjacent servers. This option can be used with fully enclosed cabinets for self-contained cooling pods or rows.

      Magnetic Cabinet Skirts

      Data center managers who are serious about maximizing their cooling efficiency know that sealing all gaps is critical to maximize the effectiveness of their aisle containment solution.  It is common practice to use blanking panels to fill unused rack spaces.  However, cabinet skirts to seal the gap under server cabinets are often overlooked. Data centers that incorporate hot and cold aisle containment have pressure differentials between the aisles. This pressure can cause the gap below server cabinets, which is often 2” or more, to become an air stream between hot and cold aisles. The resulting mix of air reduces the effectiveness of a containment solution.

      The Cool Shield Magnetic Cabinet Skirts provide an easy fix for this issue.  The lightweight strips install in seconds and are scored to allow them to easily adjust to cover gaps from 1” to 3.5”. Place them at the floor level across either the front or back of the cabinets to block air mixing below the cabinets.  Also, depending on the containment design, it can be helpful to block airflow beneath the side panels at row ends.
