Redesigned Ceiling Panels Make Aisle Containment Easy
Simple to Configure and Install – Cold Aisle Containment

Thermal drop ceilings across the cold aisle are a popular aisle containment solution. They are the easiest type of containment to install in data centers that incorporate a hot/cold aisle configuration with an under floor plenum. Framed lightweight clear panels span across the aisle above the server cabinet tops. The thin panels have a melting point of 135°F. The panels will deteriorate and fall out prior to a fire suppression release. Nationally, Fire Marshals and other AHJ’s have been approving this application, especially if smoke detection can be brought into the aisles.

The redesigned Cool Shield ceiling panel system is cost effective and easy to install. The aluminum frame is lightweight, sturdy and perfectly accepts a full or cut thermal drop panel. Ceiling panels can be made to specific length/widths and can span across aisles up to 100 in. The edges of the frame can accept a variety of gaskets and brushes to provide an excellent seal between panels.

Has your Data Center switched to LED? NOW is the time.
Lower PUE by swapping out old fixtures for networked LED lighting

Lower PUE by swapping out old fixtures for networked LED lighting.
Data center managers know that there are numerous advantages to using LED lights compared to their legacy incandescent or florescent system. However, in many locations, the perceived savings have not justified the capital expense to make the switch. The time is right to re-consider a move to LED. Prices have dropped dramatically and innovative purchasing options are available to eliminate all upfront costs. LED solutions save energy, reduce heat in the data center, reduce maintenance costs, lower temperatures and improve security.

Smart LED lights can be programmed to come on when someone enters an aisle and then go off when they leave
Follow-me lighting strategies save energy costs and reduces heat. Studies have shown that managed LED lighting in a data center can reduce supply temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees. This can reduce cooling costs by up to 10%. LED lighting can also improve security by documenting who is where in the data center.

Switch to LED’s for no upfront cost.
The upfront cost of replacement lighting can still be a barrier in this budget sensitive environment. However, incentives and programs are available to make the switch with no upfront capital costs. Monthly costs can be structured to be equal to or less than the energy savings generated. This means that data centers can switch to LED lighting for literally no additional cost.

Don’t Forget to Cover the Bottom
Effectively Seal Server Cabinet Footer Gaps to Maximize Containment

Data center managers who are serious about maximizing their cooling efficiency know that using blanking panels in unused rack spaces is critical for aisle containment. However, an overlooked final step in efficiency is sealing the space under server cabinets. Data centers that incorporate hot and cold aisle containment have pressure differentials between the aisles. This pressure can cause the gap below server cabinets to become an air stream between hot and cold aisles. The resulting mix of air reduces the effectiveness of a containment solution.

The Cool Shield Magnetic Cabinet Skirt provides an easy fix for this issue. These lightweight strips install in seconds and are scored to allow them to easily adjust to cover gaps from 1” to 3.5”. Placing them at the floor level across the front or back of the cabinets and along the sides of row ends will prevent air mixing below the cabinets. Studies have shown this simple and low-cost application can impact aisle temperatures by 5 to 8 degrees resulting in thousands of dollars in energy savings.
