Data Center Resources, LLC, a leading provider of innovative power, cooling and monitoring solutions for the critical data center market, announced their advanced, efficient In-Row Cooling (IRC) units. DCR’s IRC units are available in three configurations maximizing the performance consistent with the site infrastructure. The IRC units are ideal for cold aisle containment.
The IRC unit is designed as an In-Row integrated solution to remove server-generated heat from a typical IT server room environment using a chilled water supply. A controlled supply of chilled water is provided to each IRC unit. The chilled water passes through the IRC unit coils where it collects heat from the rear (hot aisle) and the rear of the adjacent server cabinets and exits the IRC unit and returns to the chiller. The front mounted fans pull the heated air from the rear through the IRC unit coils where it is cooled and exhausted to the front (cold aisle) and front sides directly into adjacent server cabinets.
“IRC units in data centers have been gaining a lot of momentum and because the IRC unit is a ‘point of use’ cooling system, they can remove 20kW of heat load within a row of data center racks, which ultimately reduces HVAC costs and increases the lifespan of the servers”, says Data Center Resources Engineering Manager, Kevin Macomber. “DCR’s competitively priced and high quality IRC units include the latest technologies including color touchscreen displays with user defined monitoring, alarms and remote access via the internet.”
The IRC units three configurations include the ‘Open-Loop’ configuration which incorporates all of the controls, display monitoring devices, heat exchange coil and plumbing into each unit and hot air is collected from the ‘hot aisle’, pulled through the heat exchange coil, and the cooled air is then exhausted into the ‘cold aisle’. The ‘Closed-Loop’ configuration incorporates the same features as the ‘Open-Loop’ except the front and rear doors are solid and hot air is collected directly from the rear of the server cabinets, pulled through the coils, and the cooled air directly exhausted to the fronts of the adjacent server cabinets. The ‘Self-Contained’ solution incorporates both airflow solutions listed above and can be used with fully enclosed cabinets for self-contained cooling pods or rows.
“DCR’s In-Row Cooling units are a viable solution for many IT server rooms and data centers and what makes our product unique is the fact that we can change the chassis size and color to match existing or designed environments”, says Macomber. The units contain five individually replaceable exhaust fans; user-controllable fans speeds; settable internal temperature; and two-way motorized valve for water flow control.
